Exciting News: The
Norwood
Public Library will be expanding!!
The Board of Trustees and the Staff of the Norwood Public Library are pleased to announce our future plans for the expansion of the library. Funded by the $750,000 inheritance from the late Barbara Shaw — a longtime board member whose mother founded the library — we have been able to start the project that we imagined 4-5 years ago. Because the building is town property we needed to obtain approval from the Norwood Mayor and Council before we could begin. With an overwhelming positive vote in early April, we can now proceed with our plans.

Broken into phases in order to control costs, the internal demolition to the currently unused lower level will hopefully begin by late summer. We recently added a second fire exit located in the stairwell between the first and second floors in order to comply with fire code for the future expansion. The long term plans for the lower level include the new location for the children’s library and a large meeting area. The rearrangement of the upper level will feature a modern circulation desk and more effective use of the floor space for the adult library.

We will continue to update our patrons and residents about any future developments. Good things are happening!!
